Tesla charges 15,000 to replace it with a refurbished battery. Tesla will also sell a third-party vendor a new battery for 22K (about the value of the car). I currently have a reservation to have the battery replaced on February 3, but out of politeness, I’d like to update the guy if I investigate a new option.
No. Also, you can’t upgrade the battery without swapping out the badging. It’s against the rules. Tesla probably doesn’t even make packs for older Model S anymore. The old model S pack splits the cells in 16 modules, the new refreshed model S battery only have 5 very big modules. My first Tesla was a ‘17 MX 75D.
Tesla allow it? Yes. My Prius battery was $7000 and by the time I sold the car in 2018, I could get a replacement battery from Toyota for $3000 or a 3rd party one for $1500. So prices will come down over time and it’s in teslas interest to allow 3rd party certification.
This upgrade is reportedly a pretty straightforward retrofit. The 120Ah upgrade can be done, but it's pretty complicated. I got a steal on a 94Ah battery, because they sell here in the states for $6000. Replacing the 60Ah with another "used" one of the same is not something that would make any sense.
I checked out battery replacement cost near by me on BMW i3 and Mini Cooper SE which apparently uses same battery: $6000.00. I heard it is not brand new parts. It was refurbished. (Mini Cooper SE has 33 kWh battery.)
This is where the Model 3 is different. We can power our aftermarket amplifiers from the main battery's 12V DC-DC converter, but the Model 3 turns this converter off when it goes to sleep. That means the aftermarket amps connected there discharge while the car is sleeping and then re-charge when the car wakes back up.
I have a 2019 RWD standard range Tesla Model 3. I am considering an upgrade to the long range battery as I typically use the car driving out of area minus a few errands. The battery is still under warranty and not showing signs of decay. Has anyone upgraded or replaced their battery? Any thoughts or insights I should know?
Tesla Model 3 and Model Y Owners Can Now Order the Alpine Sound System Upgrade. All of a sudden my speakers sound just fine. The sound of $3k in my pocket is amazing. True but to be fair, silly new Tesla owners aka the over-protection crowd will spend 5k for plastic film applied to their car.

before tesla put in the new 15V lithium batteries, they used conventional lead acid batteries. the voltage was not sufficient for the stellar sound system tesla put in. i got the ohmmu battery and immediately noticed an increase in bass, sound stage and an overall increase in clarity. it WAS worth it. this was in 2020. i sold that 3 and got a ...
