The club was formed on 6 March 1990 [1] as Polihraftekhnika Oleksandriya (Ukrainian: Поліграфтехніка Олександрія) [3] at the local printing equipment plant. [ 4 ] [ 5 ] The same year the club won the regional football competitions of the Kirovohrad Oblast .
In August 2020 Obolon-Brovar Kyiv was renamed (again) to Obolon Kyiv. [3] The club's logo was changed accordingly. [3] The 2022-23 season saw Obolon Kyiv get promoted to the Ukrainian Premier League for the 2023-24 season. They finished 14th in the league but beat Livyi Bereh Kyiv in the play-offs (1-0 home, 1-1 away).
The 2023–24 season will be Obolon Kyiv's 33rd season in existence, and their 13th season since being re-established. It will be their first season back in the Ukrainian Premier League since the 2011–12 season. In addition to the league, Obolon Kyiv will also compete in the Ukrainian Cup.
1992–93, Dynamo Kyiv and Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk both finished on 44 points, but Dynamo Kyiv won the title with a superior goal difference: (+45) over (+31); 2005–06 , Shakhtar Donetsk and Dynamo Kyiv both finished on 75 points, but Shakhtar won the title by winning the golden match .
FC Obolon Kyiv and Ukrainian Premier League do not recognize any heritage of the club (FC Obolon Kyiv) that existed before 2013. SC Dnipro-1 is not officially the same club as FC Dnipro due to international sanctions and heavy debts to players and coaching personnel of the latter.
