Finally in 2024, the NFL announces its first expansion since 2002. Scheduled to begin play in 2028, the league will add four teams (two per conference). This will allow the NFL to return to both downtown Chicago and St. Louis, and finally make London a permanent home with two teams sharing the UK capital.
The only problems with this are (1) that the Frankfort Yellow Jackets have no ties to the Philadelphia Eagles, and (2) there's a school of thought out there that argues that the modern-day Indianapolis Colts are, via a labrynthine history dating back to the days of one of my favorite old-time NFL clubs, the Dayton Triangles.
The original AFL and NFL league names are retained. The Steelers, Colts and Ravens (by virtue of being the original Browns) remain in the NFL with the other original 13 teams. Any expansion teams post 1970 join the original AFL teams (I know, this would leave the AFL at an imbalance with the NFL until 2002 - this is just a thought experiment).
The Dayton Triangles scored the first points in an NFL game. They had been a champion team 1913 - 1918. In 1970, just like the NFL merged with the AFL, the IFL merged with the AFL's minor league, the WFA, and the 2 leagues now went by the AFL name, with teams as far west as Portland, and as far south as Jacksonville. Today the league has 32 teams, just like the NFL. We have a preview of one of these teams right here.
NFL thinking goes against "two named" teams, I agree with your comment and "barnstormers" might work best. Barn+Stormers is a compound word, not sure if that would fly but it's a good name! Rock Island is another team that had success pre NFL. In 1919 they went 9-1-1 but never had the same success afterwards. In 1926 they jumped ship, being the only NFL team to move to the 1926 version of the AFL. The rival league didn't pay as well as the NFL and they folded in 1927. Original uniform. Reimagining.

The XFL also have a few very solid logos and names but I think those should still wait for a good decade. You’re only in the early 90s at this point still. This is the time for the CFL American teams and for the NFL Europe teams to make their logos/names into the USFL. Arizona Rattlers getting into the USFL would also be fitting.
The original version featured a native american head logo on the chest. Because I wanted to follow modern NFL numbering rules and in general wanted to avoid the whole controversy in general, that was replaced with yellow front numbers to match the back numbers.
