Hanging Rock State Park is a 9,011-acre (3,647 ha) [1] North Carolina state park in Stokes County, North Carolina in the United States. The park is 30 miles (48 km) north of Winston-Salem and is located approximately 2 miles (3.2 km) from Danbury in Stokes County .
The range is home to Hanging Rock State Park, which was formed in 1936 and contains Moore's Knob and other prominent peaks. From 1935 to 1942, the Civilian Conservation Corps , a New Deal agency, built a dam and 12-acre (49,000 m 2 ) lake in the park, as well as hiking and climbing trails and picnic and campground areas.

The falls are open to the public and are accessible from the visitor center at Hanging Rock State Park. Visitors may take a 0.3-mile (.5 km) trail to the falls. There is a wooden observation deck with a view of the falls, as well as wooden steps which lead to the base of the falls. [1]
The High Country Conservancy acquired the initial 350 acres (1.4 km 2) for the state, [4] and the park now encompasses 384 acres (1.55 km 2). [5] The natural area is located just north of Grandfather Mountain State Park, and it protects Hanging Rock Ridge and the headwaters of Dutch Creek. It is managed by Grandfather Mountain State Park.

Other interesting rock formations are to the east at privately held Sauratown Mountain, and the higher complex at Hanging Rock State Park. In November 2021, a massive 500+ acre wildfire covered Pilot Mountain State Park. This fire enveloped Pilot Mountain as well, with smoke covering the iconic Knob. [2]
A rugged, deeply eroded range, the Sauras feature dramatic rock cliffs which can be seen for miles. Moore's Knob has an elevation of 2,579 feet (786 meters) above sea level. [1] Moore's Knob sharply rises more than 1,700 feet (520 m) above the surrounding countryside, and it dominates the scenery of Stokes County from almost every direction.
