On my Lenovo IdeaPad Flex-14API a few weeks ago my Cable Creation gigabit ethernet to USB 3.0 adapter started giving me this autoplay popup as a CD Drive D: whenever I plug it in. It appears in Windows Device Manager as a USB Mass Storage Device, not how it should be under Network section as Realtek USB GBE Family Controller as here:
If it is WiFi it should appear in the network list. You should have the option to connect to the network from the list. If that is not the case then you might be experiencing a driver problem with the computer. It might be that this computer lacks a driver for the adapter therfore it is not functioning.

As for "I've no access to the router unfortunately" you may be able to find an open HotSpot such as the library ...

Hence I have purchased a USB-LAN adapter as I do not have wifi where I live. The adapter is not being recognised by the laptop. If you have any suggestions as to how I can resolve this matter, I would be grateful for your help. (1) I have reinstalled Windows 10. (2) I have installed the relevant drivers from the Lenovo website.
