Katya Ida Coelho was born on 13 August 1999, [1] to a former national windsurfing champion of India Donald Coelho, [2] who also introduced windsurfing in Goa at The Goa Beach Sports Academy (GBSA) in association with the Water & Beach Sports Promotion Forum. Her brother Dayne Edgar Agnelo Coelho is also a windsurfing champion.
Çağla is also a champion windsurfer, having won the IFCA windsurfing European Slalom Championship in 2005, in Alaçatı. In 2006, in her first PWA (Professional Windsurfers Association) event, she placed 6th in IFCA Slalom World Championship. She founded her own windsurfing school "Çağla Kubat Windsurf Academy" in Alaçatı, İzmir Province.

Wakesurfing differs from other wake sports in that the boat does not tow a rider (continuously). The rider uses a tow rope to help them get up in the wake. After doing so, they drop the rope and then ride the wake as they would when surfing. The rider is also much closer to the boat than with other water sports such as wakeboarding.
