Diluvium is an archaic term applied during the 1800s to widespread surficial deposits of sediments that could not be explained by the historic action of rivers and seas. Diluvium was initially argued to have been deposited by the action of extraordinary floods of vast extent, specifically the Noachian Flood .
In 1839, geologist Roderick Murchison [3] introduced the term drift to describe unconsolidated surficial sediments previously called diluvium. The term drift refers to the drift hypothesis proposed by Charles Lyell, [4] as influenced by contemporary polar research, that these sediments had been transported by sea ice and icebergs drifting in marine currents.
Noah prepares to leave the antediluvian world, Jacopo Bassano and assistants, 1579. In the Christian Bible, Hebrew Torah and Islamic Quran, the antediluvian period begins with the Fall of the first man and woman, according to Genesis and ends with the destruction of all life on the earth except those saved with Noah in the ark (Noah and his wife, his three sons and their wives).

Alluvium and diluvium were grouped as colluvium in the late 19th century. "Colluvium" is now generally understood as sediments produced by gravity-driven transport on steep slopes. At the same time, the definition of "alluvium" has switched back to an emphasis on sediments deposited by river action.

In other cases, bank officials have attributed shifting numbers for people harmed by projects to later expansions in projects’ size or to population growth during ...
Unweatherable parent materials – sand, iron oxide, aluminium oxide, kaolinite clay. Erosion – common on shoulder slopes; other kinds also important.; Deposition – continuous, repeated deposition of new parent materials by flood as diluvium, aeolian processes which means by wind, slope processes as colluvium, mudflows, other means.
