Benson is a city in Cochise County, Arizona, United States. As of the 2020 census , the population of the city was 5,355. It was founded as a rail terminal for the area, and located approximately 45 miles (72 km) east-southeast of the city of Tucson .
The town continued to grow with the arrival of Southern Pacific Railroad in 1880. By 1894, Benson had become a major transportation hub with three major railroads.
