Harrison County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 14,582. [1] The county seat is Logan. [2] The county was formed in 1851. [3] It was named for the ninth US President William Henry Harrison. [4] Harrison County is included in the Omaha-Council Bluffs, NE-IA Metropolitan Statistical Area. [5]
It is located in Little Sioux, Iowa, about sixty miles north of Omaha, Nebraska in Iowa's Loess Hills and 15 minutes east of Interstate 29. [2] Hiking trails cover the camp, which is forested with mowed meadows and has both developed and remote campsites. There are also four cabin shelters and a 15-acre (6.1 ha) lake.
The campground, one of the most popular in southwest Iowa, offers 161 sites, two shower-and-restroom facilities, and a playground. Several picnic areas overlook the reservoir, and 8 open shelters can be reserved for private events. [2]
A campground is within the park that has 149 camping spots with some of these spots having electricity. [3] There are other activities which include hiking on a nature trail, snowmobiling, and boating. Waterfowl, pheasants, squirrels, and other game animals can be hunted at the Rathbun Wildlife Unit.
