File: The Sun by the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly of NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory - 20100819.jpg
The image of the sun's corona, assembled from high-resolution images taken by the orbiter's Extreme Ultraviolet Imager (EUI), shows active sunspot regions with protruding glowing plasma. Magnetic ...
The images could provide heliophysicists with new clues to help unlock the secrets of the sun like never before. The images, taken on March 22, 2023, and released Wednesday, showcase different ...
The detailed images recorded by SDO in 2011–2012 have helped scientists uncover new secrets about the Sun. The Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) is a NASA mission which has been observing the Sun since 2010. [4] Launched on 11 February 2010, the observatory is part of the Living With a Star (LWS) program. [5]
The High Resolution Coronal Imager (Hi-C) is a sub-orbital telescope designed to take high-resolution images of the Sun's corona. As of 2020 [update] it has been launched three times, but only the first and the third launches, on July 11, 2012, and May 29, 2018, resulted in a successful mission. [ 1 ]
In 2016, NASA released an animation of the sun doing a somersault. The capture was the result of a seven-hour maneuver the SDO completes once a year to take an accurate measure of the star’s edge.
English: This image at the time of publication is the highest resolution image of the sun's surface ever taken, at 789 nanometers (nm). Features as small as 30km (18 miles) in size are observable for the first time. The image shows a pattern of turbulence of solar plasma, a super-heated gas.
Therefore, the NASA pictures are legally in the public domain. Photographs and other NASA images should include the NASA image number if you have it, for easy reference. When accessing space photographs, be sure that you know the source. Pictures not produced by NASA employees may have different usage restrictions.
