Larkhill is a garrison town in the civil parish of Durrington, Wiltshire, England. It lies about 1 + 3 ⁄ 4 miles (2.8 km) west of the centre of Durrington village and 1 + 1 ⁄ 2 mi (2.4 km) north of the prehistoric monument of Stonehenge .

The first commandant of the school was Brigadier-General Henry Newcome, after whom Newcome Hall at Larkhill is named. [3] In 1920 it expanded to become the School of Artillery, Larkhill. [4] During the Second World War, the school was a hive of activity and provided a significant part of the training for over one million gunners. [5]

Larkhill alone had a population of 2,358, [15] meaning that the population of the village proper was 5,021. According to the 1801 census, the population of Durrington was 339. The number remained relatively steady during the 19th century, rising to 477 in 1851 before falling back to 393 in 1891.
The regiment was formed in 1947 when 4th Coast Training Regiment Royal Artillery was renamed 47 Coast Training Regiment Royal Artillery. [4] It was reformed as 47 Guided Weapons Regiment Royal Artillery and equipped with the Corporal missile in 1957. [4]
Larkhall has a Non-League football club Larkhall Athletic F.C. who play their home games at Plain Ham ground.. The Larkhall Recreation Ground, known as 'The Backfields', has a children's play ground, basketball hoops, and good views of Little Solsbury Hill.
