Susquehanna County is a county in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. As of the 2020 census, the population was 38,434 [1] Its county seat is Montrose. [2] The county was created on February 21, 1810, from part of Luzerne County [3] and later organized in 1812. [4] It is named for the Susquehanna River.

Susquehanna Township was incorporated on January 6, 1825, being formed from Allegheny and Cambria Townships. In addition to agriculture, the ready local supply of lumber attracted people to the area in the early 19th century. Much of this was transported down the West Branch Susquehanna River to lumber towns such as Williamsport.
