What is now Georgia SR 371 once was SR 141 between Georgia SR 9 and SR 20. It was changed to its present number in 1971. It was removed from the state highway system in 2020 when SR 141 was extended north along Bethelview Road, essentially replacing its original route with a new alignment.

It contains additional ramps to accommodate traffic on four nearby side roads: Buford Highway/US 23, Chamblee–Tucker Road, Pleasantdale Road, and Northcrest Road. The interchange handles approximately 300,000 vehicles each day. It has 14 bridges, the highest rising 90 feet (27 m), running from Northcrest Road to I-85 south.
After passing the city department of public works garage it is joined by a concurrency with SR 135. South Valdosta Road comes to an end, but US 221/SR 31/SR 135 turn right at a wrong-way concurrency with U.S. Route 129, which also has concurrencies with SR 11/SR 37/SR 122.
