State Route 762 (SR 762) is an east–west state highway in central Ohio, a U.S. state.The highway has its western terminus at a signalized intersection with the concurrency of U.S. Route 62 and SR 3 just 0.25 miles (0.40 km) south of the village limits of Harrisburg.
Harrisburg was laid out in 1827, and named after Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. [2] A variant name was Barryville. [3] A post office called Barryville was established in 1830, and remained in operation until 1906. [4]
Prior to the laying out of the village, the area was known as Darby Cross Roads. [5] The present name is after Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. [6] Prior to the establishment of the village of Harrisburg, the Big Darby Post Office had been established on March 13, 1834, and the name was changed to Harrisburgh Post Office on February 18, 1835.

After heading toward downtown Columbus, US 62 diverts from SR 3 onto US 40 (Broad Street) for a few blocks to Nelson Road. US 62 runs concurrently with Interstate 670 (I-670) near John Glenn Columbus International Airport until the eastern side of I-270 where US 62 heads toward Gahanna , New Albany , Johnstown , Utica , Millersburg , and Navarre .
When it was originally designated in 1924, SR 171 ran from its current western terminus in Waynesburg through New Harrisburg to its junction with SR 43 northwest of Carrollton. [3] [4] In 1937, the highway was extended eastward to SR 9, then continuing east via Carroll County Road 71 (CR 71) to a new terminus at SR 39 just west of Mechanicstown.
