The community is in southern Tompkins County, on the west side of the town of Danby. It is bordered to the west by the town of Newfield. New York State Routes 34 and 96 run together through the center of the hamlet, leading north 10 miles (16 km) to Ithaca and south 8 miles (13 km) to Spencer.

Newfield is a census-designated place (CDP) [2] in Tompkins County, New York, United States. The population was 759 at the 2010 census. Newfield Hamlet lies near the center of the town of Newfield and is located southwest of Ithaca. It was incorporated as a village in 1895. On September 21, 1926, local residents voted in favor of dissolution.
It is a 3.60-mile (5.79 km) secondary route that connects the villages of East Wakefield, New Hampshire and West Newfield, Maine. The western terminus is at the New Hampshire state line in Newfield, where it indirectly connects to New Hampshire Route 153. The eastern terminus is at State Route 11 in Newfield.
From there, the Post Road followed a Providence-Worcester post road south out of the village. This section is now part of Providence Street. About 1-mile (1.6 km) south of the town center the roads diverged. The Post Road heads east, now known as Hartford Avenue East. This road follows the original Post Road route to the Bellingham town line.
