Bon Aire is a historic home located near Shipman, Nelson County, Virginia. It is a Federal -style brick dwelling dramatically sited on a hill overlooking the James River . It was built about 1812 in a three-part scheme; with a two-story center section flanked by 1 + 1 ⁄ 2 -story, two-bay wings.
The building's total floor area covers 734,447 sq ft (68,232.4 m 2). [ 3 ] Prior to its construction, Marion County offices were located in the Marion County Courthouse, which stood on what is now Richard G. Lugar Plaza on the south side of the City-County Building; the courthouse was demolished upon completion of the latter.
