Jiwaji University (JU) is a public collegiate university in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India. The name comes from Sir Jiwaijirao Scindia of Gwalior. The university was established on 23 May 1964 and Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan , the President of India, laid the foundation stone of the campus on 11 December 1964.

The Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board was initially established as the Pre Medical Test Board in 1970. In 1981, the Pre Engineering Board was constituted, and the agencies were merged by order on 17 April 1982 into the Professional Examination Board, which was assigned the responsibility of conducting entrance tests for admission to various colleges in the state.

Gajra Raja Medical College (or GRMC) is the first medical college in Madhya Pradesh, India established in 1946. It was inaugurated on 1 August 1946 by Jiwaji Rao Scindia. The college building was inaugurated by Deputy Prime Minister of India Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on 5 December 1948.

The university was established in 1991 by Nanaji Deshmukh [2] as Chitrakoot Gramodaya Vishwavidhayalay under The Chitrakoot Gramodaya Vishwavidhayalay Adhiniyam, 1991.The name was changed to Mahatma Gandhi Gramodaya Vishwavidyalaya in 1995 through The Chitrakoot Gramodaya Vishwavidyalaya (Sanshodhan) Adhiniyam, 1995, naming the university after Mahatma Gandhi.
