Etowah County is a county located in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2020 census the population was 103,436. [1] Its county seat is Gadsden. [2] Its name is from a Cherokee word meaning "edible tree". In total area, it is the smallest county in Alabama, albeit one of the most densely populated.

The largest county is Baldwin (1,590 sq mi, 4,118 km 2) and the smallest is Etowah (535 sq mi, 1,386 km 2). [8] The Constitution of Alabama requires that any new county in Alabama cover at least 600 square miles (1,600 km 2) in area, effectively limiting the creation of new counties in the state. [9]

Southside is a city located in Etowah County in the U.S. state of Alabama. It is included in the Gadsden Metropolitan Statistical Area. It incorporated in 1957. [3] The population was 8,412 at the time of the 2010 United States Census. [4] It is located 8 to 12 miles (13 to 19 km) south of downtown Gadsden.
Coats Bend is a census-designated place in Etowah County, Alabama, United States. Its population was 1,394 as of the 2010 census. [4] A post office was established in 1878 and was in operation until 1903. [5]
