Varanasi (known earlier as Benares) is a city situated on the banks of the River Ganges in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh and is approximately 800 kilometers(497 miles) southeast of national capital Delhi. Central Hindu Girls School was established in 1904 by Dr. Annie Besant. Initially the school was called Kanya Vidyalaya. In 1915, along with Central Hindu Boys School, the Girls school was also handed over to the Banaras Hindu University by Dr. Annie Besant.
