Municipal Golf Course, also known as Buncombe County Golf Course, is a historic golf course and national historic district located at Asheville, Buncombe County, North Carolina. The district encompasses one contributing building (the Clubhouse (1927)) and one contributing site associated with a course designed by Donald Ross and opened in 1927.

The Cardinal Course began as a 9-hole golf course constructed in 1970. A second 9 holes was completed in 1981, bringing the hole count to 18. The course is currently ranked 6th in the Top Courses of the Sandhills Region and 13th in the Top 100 Courses of North Carolina. [5]

The first nine holes were completed in 1962 while the second nine opened to the public in 1975. [1] The course architect, George Cobb (1914-1986), in addition to being the co-designer of Augusta National's par 3 course, [2] is also the architect for over 100 other courses in the southeast US to include East Lake in Atlanta GA, Quail Hollow in Charlotte NC and Sea Pines in Hilton Head SC.
