This is a list of department stores and some other major retailers in the four major corridors of Downtown Los Angeles: Spring Street between Temple and Second ("heyday" from c.1884–1910); Broadway between 1st and 4th (c.1895-1915) and from 4th to 11th (c.1896-1950s); and Seventh Street between Broadway and Figueroa/Francisco, plus a block of Flower St. (c.1915 and after).
Havertys was founded by James Joseph (J.J.) Haverty and his brother Michael in 1885. The first store was located at 14 East Hunter Street (now 117 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive) in Atlanta, Georgia. By the third year, the new company moved to a larger location. [2]
