New York University (NYU) is a private research university in New York City, New York. Chartered in 1831 by the New York State Legislature , [ 13 ] NYU was founded in 1832 by Albert Gallatin [ 14 ] as a non-denominational all-male institution near City Hall based on a curriculum focused on a secular education .
The division offered courses in adult education such as "Character Building" and "Social Hygiene" [4] as well as Women's Law [5] while sponsoring lectures on "The American Way". [6] New York University's School of Education did not accept the courses offered through the DGE as part of the "in-residence" requirements towards a Bachelor's degree. [7]
The Jack H. Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, generally known as NYU Skirball, is an 850-seat theater at 566 LaGuardia Place in Manhattan, New York, owned by New York University. It was named after philanthropist Jack H. Skirball. The theatre was completed in October 2003 and cost approximately $40 million. [1]
