Fort Kent (French: Fort-Kent) is a town in Aroostook County, Maine, United States, situated at the confluence of the Fish River and the Saint John River, on the border with New Brunswick, Canada. The population was 4,067 in the 2020 census . [ 3 ]
Fort Kent stands on a slight rise overlooking the Saint John River, just west of the mouth of the Fish River. The Saint John is in this area part of the Canada–United States border, and the region on both sides of the river was until the 1842 Webster-Ashburton Treaty territory disputed by both the United States and the United Kingdom, of which New Brunswick was then a colonial province.
The Fort Kent CDP is located at (47.254945, −68.585421), [3] along the Saint John River, which forms the northern border of the town as well as the Canada–United States border The northern terminus of U.S. Route 1 is near the center of the CDP, at the bridge across the Saint John River into Clair , New Brunswick.
