It was the first time that the Royal Variety Performance became an annual event. In 1923 it moved to the Coliseum Theatre. Then after a gap in 1924, moved to the Alhambra Theatre in February 1925, where it remained in 1926, held on 27 May. It was the first Royal Variety Performance to be broadcast, with the BBC providing live radio coverage.
The Royal Variety Performance is a variety show held annually to raise money for the Royal Variety Charity consisting family entertainment that includes comedy, music, dance, magic and other speciality acts. It is attended by senior members of British royalty.
The 2024 edition of the annual show featured performances from Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Sydnie Christmas, James Bay, Stephen Mulhern and the cast of Starlight Express among many others.

In 1963, they appeared on the ITV Royal Variety Performance in a sketch written by Galton and Simpson featuring Steptoe and Son totting outside Buckingham Palace, the telerecording of the live show, broadcast on 10 November 1963, still exists. The audio of the sketch was also released on a 7-inch single.
