Nutmeg begins, with Tumtum's help, to help take care of the children. Using the cover of "Nutmeg, a Fairy of Sorts", Nutmeg cleans the attic in which the children sleep and mends their clothes while Tumtum makes repairs to both the room and the children's toys. The children repay Nutmeg's kindness by leaving treats for them in the doll's house.

The National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction, established in 1976, [1] is an annual American literary award presented by the National Book Critics Circle (NBCC) to promote "the finest books and reviews published in English." [2] Books previously published in English are not eligible, such as re-issues and paperback editions.
The 1970 Newbery Medal winning book Sounder, by William H. Armstrong, was the inaugural winner of the Mark Twain Award in 1972. [2] Peg Kehret has won the Mark Twain Award four times, once in 1999 for Small Steps: The Year I Got Polio, a memoir of her childhood, and three times in six years from 2007 to 2012 for novels. [3]
