Overton was originally settled in 1869 by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, led by Helaman Pratt. A regular branch was organized there in 1883. [2] In the 1880s, Overton was the location of the only store in the lower Moapa Valley and attracted people from neighboring localities who arrived in Overton to buy supplies.
The Overton Islands are a small chain of islands in Lake Mead, Nevada, in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. The islands are located in the Overton Arm of the lake, about four miles southeast of Echo Bay.
