Ascension Health St. Mary's Hospital (formerly Presence St. Mary's Hospital, AMITA Health St. Mary’s) is a non-profit hospital in Kankakee, Illinois. [2] [1] It is a 182-bed acute care facility with a Level II Emergency/Trauma Center. It is part of the Ascension healthcare system.
The original frame building on the east side of Saginaw soon proved inadequate; in 1875 a new building was begun on the site and the hospital incorporated as St. Mary's. Its first patients were principally injured lumbermen. The staff devised a health insurance plan of $5 a year to raise funds.

In 1950, Corwin Hospital consisted of three two-story wings and 200-beds. In 1953, the Sisters of Charity decided to consolidate both hospitals. St. Mary's would be razed and Corwin Hospital would be expanded by building over and around the existing structure. The new St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center was dedicated in 1957.
