Blog fiction is an online literary genre that tells a fictional story in the style of a weblog or blog. In the early years of weblogs, blog fictions were described as an exciting new genres creating new opportunities for emerging authors, [1] but were also described as "notorious" [2] in part because they often uneasily tread the line between fiction and hoax.
The first printed blook was User Interface Design for Programmers, by Joel Spolsky, published by Apress on June 26, 2001, based on his blog Joel on Software. [citation needed] An early blook was written by Tony Pierce in 2002 when he compiled selected posts from his one-year-old blog and turned the collection into a book called "Blook". [1]
A prize for the best blog-based book was initiated in 2005, [50] the Lulu Blooker Prize. [51] However, success has been elusive offline, with many of these books not selling as well as their blogs. The book based on Julie Powell's blog "The Julie/Julia Project" was made into the film Julie & Julia, apparently the first to do so.
The highest-ranked book on the list was the Elena Ferrante novel My Brilliant Friend published in 2012. Authors Ferrante, Jesmyn Ward, and George Saunders each had three books on the list, the most of any author.
