The theatre is a corner-stage with raked seating on three sides. It is the main venue for Queensland Theatre. It was named in 2002, in honour of the late Queensland actor, playwright and director Bille Brown, in recognition of his contribution to the Arts, when the Queensland Theatre Company moved to Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC). The Theatre Royal was the second dedicated theatre built in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It opened in 1881 [ 1 ] and was designed by Andrea Stombuco . The first venue on the same site was Mason's Concert [or Music] Hall (1865), which had been designed by William (Billy) Coote and constructed by John Bourne.
