St. Mary's University College was founded in 2008, as a collaborative effort between the South Sudanese Ministry of Gender, Social Welfare and Religious Affairs and the Roman Catholic Archdiocese, with the cooperation of the Volunteers' Organization for International Co-operation OVCI la Nostra Famiglia (INGO which has been continuously working in South Sudan since 1983).
The Catholic University of South Sudan opened with 50 pioneer students on 29 September 2008, as a private institution of higher education. [1] In its first year of operation of the 2008–2009 academic year , the school enrolled 250 students, which is reported to be a high number for a country like that. [ 3 ]
The Bridge University was founded in 2009 as a post-secondary college. However, after one semester, the administration upgraded to a full university to meet the overwhelming demand for instruction. As of July 2011, the university has over 3,000 students enrolled with over 65 full-time lecturers and over 45 part-time staff.
