He was born Frank Morris Riley in Madison, Wisconsin, on September 10, 1875. [1] His father, Edward F. Riley (1847–1927) was secretary of the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents from 1888 to 1906 and was a prominent member of business and real estate circles in Madison.
The Kohler Riverbend Estate is an historic property located in Kohler, Wisconsin. It was built in 1922–1923 by Walter J. Kohler Sr., then governor of Wisconsin and president of the Kohler Company. It was reported to cost in excess of $1,000,000 to construct (equivalent to $17,900,000 in 2023).
The World's Largest Round Barn was built in 1916 and is part of the grounds for the annual Central Wisconsin State Fair. In 1851 and 1853, when the area was still forested, surveyors working for the U.S. government marked all the section corners in the 6 by 6 miles (9.7 by 9.7 km) square which now includes Marshfield, Hewitt, and Cameron, working on foot with compass and chain.
Louis's plans for the estate came to an abrupt halt the following year, on his sudden death in January, 1886. He was 37 years old when he died, leaving behind a widow and five children. After Louis's death, the stock farm was disbanded and the horses sold, and Nina Dousman renamed the estate "Villa Louis" in memory of her late husband.
