Riverhead is a town in Suffolk County, New York, United States, on the north shore of Long Island. Since 1727, Riverhead has been the county seat of Suffolk County, [3] though most county offices are in Hauppauge. [4] As of the 2020 census, the population was 35,902. The town rests on the mouth of the Peconic River, from which it derives its name.
The station house is owned by the Town of Riverhead and the MTA uses a high level platform and other amenities instead. The station is also near the west end of the Riverhead Restoration Site of the Railroad Museum of Long Island. A collection of historic Long Island Rail Road cars and maintenance equipment can be found near the station. [5]

County Route 73 is Roanoke Avenue from downtown Riverhead north towards the farms along the Long Island Sound. Roanoke Avenue in Downtown Riverhead was originally part of CR 43 between NY 25 (Main Street) and Northville Turnpike. This segment was replaced in 1943, when CR 73 was established on Roanoke Avenue.
