Shelton Vineyards is a vineyard located in Dobson, North Carolina. Of over 95 North Carolina wineries, [ 1 ] Shelton Vineyards is the largest family-owned estate winery in North Carolina. Located in the Yadkin Valley near Mount Airy , the estate is 406-acre (1.64 km 2 ) acres.
Dobson is the home of the Shelton Vineyards, the largest winery in North Carolina. It is also home to a significant Latino population due to the large number of farms in the area. The main crops in the area are corn , tobacco and soy beans .
In 1999, Shelton Vineyards began planting 200 acres (81 ha) of vinifera grapes on land considered perfectly suited to vinifera grape growing. The following year, Shelton opened a state-of-the-art 30,000 case winery.
Shelton-Mackenzie Wine Company distributes Shelton's namesake label, Carol Shelton Wines. They make Zinfandel wine from single vineyard grapes. [1] Their Zinfandel's are called Wild Thing, Karma Zin, Black Magic Late Harvest Zinfandel, and Monga Zin. [5] [6] The Monga Zin grapes come from dry farmed old vine grapes from the Cucamonga Valley AVA.
