The Phillips Library of the Peabody Essex Museum (PEM) is a rare books and special collections library. It is made up of the collections of the former Peabody Museum of Salem and the Essex Institute (which merged in 1992 to form the Peabody Essex Museum). Both had libraries named for members of the Phillips family. [1] [2]
The Peabody Institute Library is the public library serving Peabody, Massachusetts. It was established in 1852 by a bequest from philanthropist and Peabody native George Peabody , and now has its main facility at 82 Main Street, with the South Branch at 78 Lynn Street and West Branch at 603 Lowell Street.
Construction of the library began in 1898 and it was opened in 1900. [2] In 1900 the library commissioned the first mural of F. Luis Mora , a prominent Hispanic American artist. The library was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, [ 1 ] and included in the Lynn Common Historic District in 1992.
The Essex Town Hall and TOHP Burnham Library is an exuberant Shingle Style building at 30 Martin Street in Essex, Massachusetts in the United States. Containing town offices, a public library and an auditorium, it was built in 1893-1894, and its architect was Frank W. Weston, of Boston and Malden, Massachusetts .
The library building was constructed in 1855 for John Bertram, a prominent sea captain, and his family. [2] On December 1, 1887, the Bertram family wrote a letter stating their intent to donate the Italianate style mansion to the city of Salem for use as a library, and the city accepted the offer. The library opened its doors on July 8, 1889.
