The United States Military Academy (West Point) and grounds were declared a National Historic Landmark in 1960 [2] due to the Revolutionary War history and the age and historic significance of the academy itself. The majority of the buildings in the central cadet area are historic.
The 6th Infantry Regiment arrived at the port of New York on 13 July 1919 on the troopship USS America, and emergency period personnel were discharged from the service. The regiment was transferred on 28 July 1919 to Camp Gordon, Georgia, and subsequently to Camp Jackson, South Carolina. on 29 December 1920.
Some reenactment includes Waffen-SS units, the paramilitary force of the Nazi Party in Nazi Germany. Although banned in Germany and Austria, SS reenacting groups exist elsewhere, including in Europe and North America. The regiment trained at Jefferson barracks for two years when in 1844, it was ordered to the western border of Louisiana for the war with Mexico. Hostilities were precipitated by the murder of Colonel Cross and the killing of a lieutenant with a small detachment of 4th Infantry soldiers by Mexican raiders.
