A 454 that is .060 over comes out to 466.9, 467ci. Most call it a 468 but I like the exact number, 467 just sounds cool, like its smaller cousin. Not sure about .030 over and .040 over, I think its like 460ci and 462?

+.040" over pistons are gonna be hard to find. Before springing for a custom ordered set, I'd consider boring the block to +.060".
I'm starting my first build and it's a BBC 454 Mark IV that I just got back front the maching shop bored 40 over. Starting with the lower end of the engine, I'm looking to purchases piston rods and piston heads but get asked about rod length and piston head shape and I have no idea from there...
Bore .060 over to 4.31 and stroke 1/4 inch longer than stock at 4.25 inches. There are lots of economical kits on the market. I have never had a failure with the 289 block.
How much can I get a 454 block bored? The block is already 060 over. The block is a 289 block 4 bolt. I measured the cylinders. They had measurements from 4.3101 inch to 4.3117 inch. There is one cylinder that has a small damage on top. I will put out some pictures, so you can see what I mean.
most guys who want to significantly increase the displacement of a 454 big block swap a 4.25" stroker crank and a .030, or .060 over bore pistons and 6.385" connecting rods, that results in a 489-496 displacement with reasonable durability in most cases.
.100 over for a BBC is acceptable. To say you can go .060 and if you go more you need to sonic test. The sonic test should be done on any block that is going to be bored, even if it's .010 .
Correct me if I am wrong but a 454 is 4.25" bore x 4.00" stroke. .060 over means the bore becomes 4.25 + .06 = 4.31". Displacent = displacement per cylinder x 8. displacement per cylinder = area x height = 3.14 x (4.31/2) x (4.31/2) x 4.00 = 58.33. (area = pi x radius x radius)
Hi I have a 454 bored 40 over, flat top pistons and 781 heads with dual springs. The intake is a torker II open plain and on top sits a new holley 750 double pumper. The cam is stock or real close to it. What I am looking for is a cam that will help me build power around 3000 or 4000 on.
