Unified Fire Authority (UFA) is Utah’s largest fire agency with 695 employees serving an estimated 473,921 residents in 15 municipalities and unincorporated Salt Lake County. The UFA provides service to all unincorporated areas of Salt Lake County and one municipality (Eagle Mountain) is located in Utah County.
This process provides fire and life safety standards for buildings, helping to protect people and property from the hazards of fire, explosion or dangerous conditions in new and existing buildings and promote firefighter and emergency responder safety during emergency operations.
UFA Divisions. The positions of Fire Chief and Chief Legal Officer are appointed by the UFA Board. The Assistant Chief positions as well as the Chief Financial Officer position are appointed by the Fire Chief. Positions of Battalion Chief, Captain, Firefighter Specialist, and Firefighter are “merit” positions requiring a competitive process.
Unified Fire Authority responded to 28,530 medical calls in 2014, making emergency medical calls the majority of response. Every UFA firefighter is also a trained EMT able to provide patient care and treatments on emergency medical calls.

History of UFA. On November 21, 1921 Salt Lake County Fire Department was formed under the direction of Chief Albert Marriott. Throughout the department’s history, members have worked to enhance fire service and improve service delivery to the residents of the Salt Lake Valley.
