The Europe Cup (also known as European Badminton Club Championships) is a badminton team championships played by clubs from all around Europe, comparable to the UEFA Champions League in football. It was established in 1978 by the members of Badminton Europe .
The 2025 European Mixed Team Badminton Championships will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, between 12 and 16 February 2025 and organised by Badminton Europe and Azerbaijan Badminton Federation. The host location was announced in April 2024 by Badminton Europe. [1] These championships also act as the European qualification event for 2025 Sudirman Cup.
European Mixed Team Badminton Championships usually started prior to the individual championships until it was split in 2009. From 2017 on the European badminton championship is held annually except for the year with European Games - the badminton program at those Games will operate as that years Championships.
It is one of the five continental bodies under the flag of the Badminton World Federation (BWF). It has 53 member associations and 1 associate member. It was founded on 27 September 1967 in Frankfurt, Germany. [1] At its annual meeting held on 8 April 2006 the members decided to change the name from European Badminton Union, to Badminton Europe.
It was played just before the European Badminton Championships, the individual competition, in the same venue. However, the European team tournament was split from the European individual event for the first time in 2009. [1] During the tournament, each tie comprises five matches: men and women's singles, men and women's doubles, and mixed doubles.
Neil & John then went on the European Badminton Union circuit, where they were 1993 Czech Open champions. They soon progressed onto the World Grand Prix circuit, competing all round the world achieving a highest IBF men's doubles ranking of #12 in 1996. In 1995 they helped England inflict a rare defeat to China. [2]
