Malone village is located in the northern part of the town of Malone at (44.850676, −74.28907), [7] in north-central Franklin County. According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 3.18 square miles (8.23 km 2), of which 3.11 square miles (8.06 km 2) is land and 0.066 square miles (0.17 km 2) 2.08%, is water.

The current building is still the largest building in the historic downtown of Malone. In the Flanagan's heyday it was said by locals and travelers alike that it was the largest hotel north of Albany, New York. The hotel suffered a fire in 1997 supposedly started by someone falling asleep while smoking on their bed in their hotel room.
While it was initially reported that the building could be restored, [3] the site was instead designated for a modern, mixed-use affordable housing and retail development. [4] In November 2021, demolition began on the Paddock Building's burned shell and six neighboring buildings. [5] Construction on the new development began in July 2022. [4]
