A circulator pump or circulating pump is a specific type of pump used to circulate gases, liquids, or slurries in a closed circuit with small elevation changes. They are commonly found circulating water in a hydronic heating or cooling system.
The boiler heating surfaces includes a number of tubes arranged in a parallel form and the inlet ends are welded to the distributors or the headers. A circulation pressure is to be provided during the installation of the pump as per the boiler design and it should be sufficient to over come the resistance offered by the tubes.
Higher initial installation cost. Circulator pumps cost more than zone valves; Higher power consumption. Operating circulators draw more power any time the zone is actively heating. Zone valves, by comparison, draw little power at any time and many designs only draw power while in transition from open to close or vice versa.
This is in marked contrast to steam systems where the inherent pressure of the steam is sufficient to distribute the steam to remote points in the system. A system may be broken up into individual heating zones using either multiple circulator pumps or a single pump and electrically operated zone valves.
A forced circulation boiler is a boiler where a pump is used to circulate water inside the boiler. This differs from a natural circulation boiler which relies on current density to circulate water inside the boiler. In some forced circulation boilers, the water is circulated at twenty times the rate of evaporation. [1]
