In 1996, the stronger J-Magnum frame was introduced and the cylinder was lengthened to support the .357 Magnum round, (as well as the .38 Special). The new model replaced the .38 Special-only version and is available in either a 2.125" or a 3" barrel, with a 5" barrel introduced in 2005.
I belive the correct and offical model name of the S&W Model 19, is the Smith & Wesson Model 19 Combat Masterpiece. Not Combat Magnum. (I could be wrong however -- but I don't think so.) The 'Combat Masterpiece' is the Model 15. The Model 19 is definitely the 'Combat Magnum.' D.E. Watters 06:20, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
