Mentone (/ ˌ m ɛ n ˈ t oʊ n /) is an unincorporated town in and the county seat of Loving County, Texas, United States.As of 2020, the population was 22, up from a population of 19 in 2010, [4] almost one-quarter of the county's 82 people at the time.
The last county to be initially created was Kenedy County in 1921, but Loving County is the newest organized county; it was first organized in 1893 in an apparent scheme to defraud, abolished in 1897, then reorganized in 1931.
Loving was founded in 1907 on land that was part of the Lost Valley Loving Ranch, owned by Oliver Loving who was the grandson of the famous cattle drover, Oliver Loving. The town was moved approximately one mile to the north in 1909 in order to be along the Gulf, Texas and Western Railroad. [ 2 ]
