Vinyl siding is plastic exterior siding for houses and small apartment buildings, used for decoration and weatherproofing, imitating wood clapboard, batten board and batten or shakes, and used instead of other materials such as aluminum or fiber cement siding.
Vinyl siding. Wood clapboard is often imitated using vinyl siding or uPVC weatherboarding. It is usually produced in units twice as high as clapboard. Plastic imitations of wood shingle and wood shakes also exist. Since plastic siding is a manufactured product, it may come in unlimited color choices and styles.
The main roof is covered in standing-seam metal and there are two brick chimneys, one each on the north and south roof slopes. The house is clad in vinyl siding with exposed wood trim and eave details, including a bracketed and denticulated frieze and molded comice. A decorative elliptical-shaped motif is featured in the tympanum of the pediment.
Wood-plastic composite. Wood–plastic composites (WPCs) are composite materials made of wood fiber/wood flour and thermoplastic(s) such as polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polyvinyl chloride (PVC), or polylactic acid (PLA). In addition to wood fiber and plastic, WPCs can also contain other ligno-cellulosic and/or inorganic filler materials.
Housewrap is installed between the sheathing and the exterior siding, and is used behind vinyl, wood clapboards, shingles or shakes, brick, and other building materials. In all cases, the housewrap helps prevent water intrusion when moisture in any form gets past the siding and its trim and caulking.
However, the house has since been covered with vinyl siding and much of its original wood trim has been lost. It is currently occupied by Nightingale Visiting Nurses. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on July 5, 1984.
