Hillsdale County is a county located in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2020 Census, the population was 45,746. [2] The county seat is Hillsdale. [3] Hillsdale County is the only county in Michigan to border both Indiana and Ohio. Due to an angle in the state's border with Ohio, Hillsdale County has the southernmost point in Michigan.
The area was first settled by brothers Benaiah and Edmund Jones, who came here from Painesville, Ohio in 1828 and purchased land the next year. They surveyed and platted the community by 1831. It served as the first county seat of Hillsdale County, which was formally organized in 1835. The Jonesville post office opened on January 21, 1841.
The township is served by three separate public school districts. The majority of the township is served by Pittsford Area Schools. The northwest portion of the township is served by Hillsdale Community Schools, and a very small portion of the southwest corner of the township is served by Camden-Frontier Schools. [11]
