Anne Boleyn (/ ˈ b ʊ l ɪ n, b ʊ ˈ l ɪ n /; [7] [8] [9] c. 1501 or 1507 – 19 May 1536) was Queen of England from 1533 to 1536, as the second wife of King Henry VIII.The circumstances of her marriage and execution, by beheading for treason, made her a key figure in the political and religious upheaval that marked the start of the English Reformation.
Mary was probably born at Blickling Hall, the family seat in Norfolk, and grew up at Hever Castle, Kent. [5] She was the daughter of a wealthy diplomat and courtier, Thomas Boleyn, later Earl of Wiltshire, by his marriage to Elizabeth Howard, the eldest daughter of Thomas Howard, then Earl of Surrey and future 2nd Duke of Norfolk, and his first wife Elizabeth Tilney.
