Ocean Isle Beach (or simply Ocean Isle, or OIB) is a small seaside town in Brunswick County, North Carolina, United States. It was incorporated as a town in 1959 [4] and is part of the Wilmington, NC Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 867 at the 2020 census.
The building was also equipped with luxurious features, including a roof garden, the "Umbrella Room" lobby, high-speed elevators, "vacuum-type steam heating," and a 100-car garage replete with car elevator to aid the staff valets. There was a private beach and food stand for the residents and their guests to enjoy. [2]
Drivers ride up the elevator in their cars and are placed into their own "garage" adjacent to their unit. [6] The tower has three elevators to take cars to their units and estimated to cost about $560 million to build. [7] The groundbreaking commenced on April 19, 2014, at the Sales Center of the Porsche Design Tower in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida.
[1] [3] [4] Sunny Isles Beach had very few skyscrapers until the 2000s, when many were constructed on the east side of Collins Avenue, on the beach adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean. [5] This strip historically consisted of a row of low rise hotels known as "Motel Row", mostly developed midcentury in the MiMo architectural style. [6]
In 1880 alone, buyers built 35 houses, along a hotel, two bath houses, and ten private stables. [3] A total of 32 houses built in the 1880s are part of the current historic district, including one built by Ocean City Association member Ezra B. Lake. More houses were built in the succeeding decades, aided by improved transportation.
