James Earl Leverich (December 6, 1891 – December 27, 1979) was an American dairy farmer, strawberry grower, and Progressive Republican politician. He served 28 years in the Wisconsin State Senate (1935–1939, 1943–1967), and was chairman of the town of Angelo, Wisconsin, for 40 years (1931–1971).
Then, in 1851, Austin moved to the town of Leon, Monroe County, Wisconsin. Austin owned a mill and merchandise store in Leon, Wisconsin. He was a farmer. He served as Leon Town Treasurer and as superintendent of schools. In 1881, Austin served in the Wisconsin State Assembly and was a Republican. Austin died in Leon, Wisconsin. [2] [3]
Born in Monroe, Wisconsin, Deininger graduated from Monroe High School and went to the United States Naval Academy. He graduated in 1969 and was a nuclear submarine officer in the United States Navy until 1975. [1] He attended the University of Chicago before graduating from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 1978. [2]

The story of Melvina began when Vernon County miller Charles A. Hunt returned from the Civil War and sold all his interests in that county. He used the funds to buy 300 acres of land in Monroe County, including the present site of the village of Melvina. He built a mill at that site and persuaded other families to come and settle there.
