A vengeful demon who Sakonji captured and trapped on a mountain and was used for testing applicants for the Demon Slayer Corps. Unable to escape the mountain, he made it his goal to target and eat Sakonji's disciples as revenge, with only Giyu and Tanjiro, the one who would eventually kill him, surviving. After letting Nezuko rest, Sakonji puts Tanjiro through a test to prove his worthiness by climbing up and descending the hazardous and trap-infested Mt. Sagiri. Tanjiro succeeds in the task, and, after recalling the letter from Giyu requesting him to train Tanjiro to become a Demon Slayer, Sakonji accepts him as his student.

Tatsuhiko Katayama, their editor, was worried about the one-shot crusade being too dark for the young demographic and asked Gotouge if they could write another type of the main character who would be "brighter". He tries to appear to have no interest in women but spends a lot of money on dating sims and later starts meeting girls online.
