The West Coast detachment of aircraft would last for about two weeks. When the squadron was decommissioned many of the El Centro personnel were sent to man a new A-6 detachment that was sent to El Centro. The squadron was disestablished on 30 June 1988. Electronic Attack Squadron 129 (VAQ-129) is the United States Navy's only EA-18G Growler training squadron.
