A feasibility study is an assessment of the practicality of a project or system. A feasibility study aims to objectively and rationally uncover the strengths and weaknesses of an existing business or proposed venture, opportunities and threats present in the natural environment, the resources required to carry through, and ultimately the prospects for success.
The product software company then looks into the technical and economical feasibility of implementing this change and consequently it decides whether the change will actually be realized. If that indeed is the case, the change has to be planned, for example through the usage of function points .
To answer these questions, the feasibility study is effectively a condensed version of a comprehensive systems analysis and design. The requirements and usages are analyzed to some extent, some business options are drawn up and even some details of the technical implementation. The product of this stage is a formal feasibility study document.
Ideally, a techno-economic model represents the best current understanding of the system being modeled. The following are examples of typical uses. Evaluating economic feasibility: TEA can be used to anticipate whether a process will be sufficiently profitable under a certain set of assumptions. It can thereby help companies to avoid pursuing ...
A sample list of criteria is shown below, from which a scorecard can be developed that can then be used to score projects at a gate meeting. Front-End Engineering focuses on technical requirements and identifying main costs for a proposed project. [2] It is used to establish a price for the execution phase of the project and evaluate potential risks. It is typically followed by Detailed Design (or Detailed Engineering). The amount of time invested in Front-End Engineering is higher ...
Assess the business and technical feasibility for the proposed system; Identify the people who will help specify requirements and understand their organizational bias; Define the technical environment (e.g., computing architecture, operating system, telecommunications needs) into which the system or product will be placed
